About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Edinburgh on Clerk Street, Sweety House is a charming cafe that brings a delightful taste of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean flavors to the city’s vibrant food scene. This cozy spot, run by a warm and friendly owner, offers an inviting atmosphere where traditional recipes meet fresh, quality ingredients for a truly memorable dining experience.

The menu at Sweety House is a celebration of rich, authentic flavors and caters generously to vegetarian and vegan palates. From the golden, flaky layers of their famous Baklava—including a thoughtful vegan version—to the silky, warm sweetness of their Kunafa, every bite promises satisfaction. The Pistachio Cake and Basbousa add comforting, syrupy textures complemented perfectly by the intense and aromatic Turkish Coffee, a house specialty praised by many visitors.

The cafe also offers a variety of savory treats featuring their signature Fatayers and Mankaish with tantalizing options like Zaatar, Spicy Chilli, and Sujuk — all freshly prepared each day. For those craving something heartier, the lineup of 10" pizzas offers a crowd-pleasing range including Sujuk, Mediterranean, Vegetarian, and classic Cheese & Tomato. Many customers rave about the baked falafel wrap, a healthful alternative lovingly baked, not fried, which perfectly complements Sweety House’s sweet offerings.

Customers often mention feeling like they’ve discovered a hidden gem, with one visitor praising the cozy vibes and even the culturally resonant music filling the space.

Special mention goes to their student offers, which provide excellent value: a combo including a 10" Pizza or a Hummus Falafel Wrap, paired with a piece of baklava and a hot or cold drink for only £9.80. This thoughtful approach makes Sweety House a natural gathering spot for students and locals alike, looking to indulge in flavorsome, affordable meals without sacrificing quality.

Reviewers consistently highlight the freshness and authenticity of the food. Aleem Afzal notes the appealing taste and freshness of their baklava, while Aravinth Rajan admires the healthy, home-prepared falafel varieties and vows weekly visits to sample the baklavas and kunafa. Meanwhile, Samuel Moreno extols the “amazing” coffee combined with warm attention, and Qi Zhou’s detailed feedback on the baklava varieties shows the owner’s welcoming attitude toward customer input and innovation.

In essence, Sweety House is more than just a cafe; it’s a heartfelt culinary journey through Turkish and Mediterranean delights, served with a smile and a welcoming environment. It was a tiny place run a super friendly, smiling old guy. We had tea and baklava there, it had a good taste and it was fresh! If I were a local, I would visit this place more often. One request to the owner/chef, make fresh knafeh, serve it hot, it will be a big hit!

Wonderful food. Vegetarian and Vegan options only. Lovey Falafel wrap and Kunafa. The food is prepared in-house everyday and fresh. Falafels are baked and not deep fried unlike other shops. Its an healthy option too. Would definitely visit every week without fail to taste the yummy Baklavas and Kunafa

The nice guy offered us free tea pot as a gesture, he also made is two baked cheese sandwiches and they were all amazing. I really recommend this place the prices are also affordable for the service they provide. The Turkish coffee is really intense & good. I liked the vibes of the place and they have played music from our culture since it was our first time here definitely coming again.

I found this place by chance and had the best luck, as it was about to close. The attention is really warm and kind. The coffee is AMAZING. I had the fortune to get a pistachio cookie and it’s great. Will be back really soon. Everybody talks about what this Edin’s hidden gem has to offer, you need to see it for yourselves. Visit this venue, you won’t regret.

Chocolate baklava is a little too sweet for me, but the original one is great! Owner says it’s his favourite ;) It was also really nice of him to give me a bite for taste. Update. Second time favourites are 1)with cheese 2)with milky pudding ish filling.

Nice sweet shop with delicious Turkish coffee. The owner, Talal, is quite welcoming and nice. Fair and reasonable price. Will be my go-to sweet (Syrian style) shop in Edinburgh.
